Using a free VPN browser or paid VPN services and extensions helps remove blocks from your internet searches to see and find what you need. For example, if you live outside the USA and are trying to use Google Shopping to research product ideas etc. you probably have noticed that Google makes it very difficult to do that by default.
You might have tried changing your location search settings on Google, or in your browser.
You might have even tried implementing many of the answers founds on Google’s forums, or chat threads but all failed to work.
Well, after doing some digging it turns out that there is a great solution…
Free & paid VPN browsers and extensions!
A VPN is a virtual private network.
A VPN allows you to change your computer browser location IP address from where you are doing your internet browsing.
For example, if you live in Canada and your IP address is 178.876.988 that IP address will change once you choose the search the internet using a VPN. So if you want your computer appear IP address to be based in the USA, then all you would need to do is change the VPN setting location of your browser to be based in the USA.
You can change your default IP address to the USA or any other country depending on the VPN service you are using.
You might be wondering now, should you use free or paid VPN services? The answer to that is both can be great depending on which service you use. As with all things, you get what you pay for though!
With free VPN services it’s hit a miss. A few are wonderful but most free VPN services are junk. I’ll share with you the free services I recommend and have had success with first and then I’ll share with you a list of top VPN services you can consider.
Globus Free VPN Browser
The globus VPN browser also help you by removing region blocks. International users and researchers often come across content that is blocked in your particular region, which can be very frustrating indeed – but this browser can resolve that issue along with allowing you to search.
The globus vpn browser can only be used for PC users. It’s not available for Mac users at this time. Here’s the link to give this virtual private network browser a try.
Opera VPN Browser
Opera browser can be used for both PC and Mac users. Opera has a free VPN built into it allowing you to easily change your server location from Canada to the USA and other countries with a click of your mouse.
Go here to download Opera Browser for Free for Windows or Mac
Once you download and install and activate it, you’ll need to take these steps to activate the VPN option for the browser so you can change your server location anytime you want to use the USA version of Google:
1- Navigate and click on the Opera link at the top left of your screen when you have Opera open. Remember, you must download and activate Opera browser first before you can do this step!
2- Now click on the “Preferences” option you see here from the dropdown menu:
3- Click on “Privacy & security”
4- Click on the “Enable VPN” box to activate the service that Opera has built into the browser. Also turn off the option below that says “bypass VPN for default search engines”
5- You can now change the base location of your server country by going to Google.com for example after you change your VPN location from Americas, Asia or Europe :
Now that you have your free VPN browser with Opera set up, you can now browser Google.com/shopping and anything else from the USA or other countries.
The reason why this solution is so helpful is because if you are wanting to perform market research using Google Shopping the VPN Opera browser makes that possible. Now you can see the same results that a person located in the USA would see.
Enjoy.
Hi Trent,
thank you for the article! I’d tried your guide to switch my IP using Opera VPN to see US ads from the Czech republic, but it just didn’t work.
The IP changed but Google thought I’m in Ukraine. I figured the free IP is used by many other people.
I had been struggling with it for some time and finally find a solution that works – step by step guide is on my blog: https://www.onesork.com/how-to-change-location-on-google-shopping/
Hopefully, this will make someone’s life a bit easier. So far works perfectly for me.
Thanks for the comment Jan. You’re correct, Opera just recently adjusted the way they structure their IP’s for their Free VPN. They said they are adding more and more new geo based IP’s to their system but for now it’s not like it once was before Jan of 2018. The VPN plugin/extension you shared looks like it would work good. Another VPN is https://windscribe.com
Thanks Trent!
Thank you so much .
You’re welcome Renate!
